STUREPLANSGRUPPEN TO OPERATE DICKSONSKA PALATSET

In 2023, following a signed agreement with Higab, it was confirmed that Stureplansgruppen would take over the operations of the Dicksonska Palatset. Their extensive experience managing culturally protected buildings was a decisive factor in the selection process for who would be entrusted with running this historic site.
Dicksonska Palatset has been protected under the strongest form of legal preservation since 1973, classified as a byggnadsminne—a level above the commonly referenced k-märkt status under Sweden’s Cultural Heritage Act. This designation means that all modifications, whether internal or external, require official approval. Stureplansgruppen already operates two other such historic properties: Gamla Riksarkivet and Berns.
“This is a well-established operator with experience in running businesses in similar buildings and with exciting visions for future development,” said Anette Persson, Business Developer at Higab.
The building was previously owned by the City Council of Gothenburg, which purchased it from Fastighets AB Göta Lejon for 2.1 million SEK in 1968. A major restoration began the following year. Today, Higab, a company fully owned by the City of Gothenburg, is responsible for the building’s management.
“We’ve had discussions with several interested parties, but there are many pieces that have to fall into place. Running a business in a venue like this demands not only experience and weight but above all a genuine appreciation for the building and its unique environment. We were looking for a partner with creative ideas that could bring something new—while still respecting the character and conditions of the property. It was important that the match felt right for both sides,” added Anette Persson.
In May 2025, it was confirmed that Oliver Ingrosso and Louise Johansson will run the restaurant Umarell on the ground floor of the palace. The upper floor will serve as an event space, ready to host weddings, banquets, conferences, and other prestigious gatherings. Office spaces are available for rent on the third and fourth floors.
It has also been announced that Joel Ighe—known for launching the chess club Svarta Hästen in Stockholm and for contributing to the success of Spy Bar and Nosh and Chow—will open a new chess club inside Dicksonska Palatset.
This outlines the future of Dicksonska Palatset, with one more exciting announcement expected by the end of the summer.
